Metaplanet Bitcoin Acquisition Spree Hits Notable Milestone with Latest Purchase
Metaplanet, a Japanese company, now holds 2,100 Bitcoin, representing 0.01% of the total Bitcoin supply. Their most recent purchase was 68.59 Bitcoin for $6.6 million at an average price of $96,335 per Bitcoin. This puts them close to the top 15 corporate Bitcoin holders, just 42 Bitcoin behind Cipher Mining. Metaplanet's stock price rose 2.78% to $42 per share following the news. The company aims to own 10,000 Bitcoin by the end of 2025 and 21,000 by the end of 2026 through their "21 Million Plan," a plan to issue 21 million shares to raise $745 million. They've already raised $20 million in the first two days of this plan. Since starting their Bitcoin acquisition strategy in April 2024, Metaplanet's stock has increased by over 3,000%, making it the best-performing stock in Japan during that time. In the first quarter of 2024, their Bitcoin yield, a measure of the effectiveness of their Bitcoin strategy, was 309.8%, and it's currently at 18% year-to-date.
