Bitcoin ETFs See Institutional Ownership Multiply 55x In Less Than A Year
In less than a year, the number of institutional owners of US spot Bitcoin ETFs has exploded from 61 in March 2024 to 3,323 by mid-February 2025, a 55-fold increase. This surge in institutional interest reflects growing confidence in Bitcoin as an asset class. Goldman Sachs nearly doubled its investment to over 24 million shares worth around $1.35 billion, and Millennium Management increased its holdings by 116% to over 23 million shares, also valued around $1.32 billion. Even sovereign wealth funds like Abu Dhabi's have entered the market, acquiring over 8 million shares worth $461 million. The total assets managed by US spot Bitcoin ETFs have soared to almost $57 billion, with BlackRock's ETF holding over $56 billion of that total. These ETFs currently hold about 1.35 million Bitcoins. This institutional influx could lead to greater stability and wider acceptance of Bitcoin, attracting more investors and potentially reducing market volatility.
