Vitalik Buterin proposes Devconnect in Argentina amid LIBRA fallout

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has suggested Argentina as the location for the next Devconnect conference, a proposal welcomed by Argentinian President Javier Milei. Buterin views Argentina as a strong example of cryptocurrency adoption due to its economic conditions, where digital assets are seen as more than just speculative investments. He believes Argentina has the potential to be a blockchain hub and sees the recent LIBRA cryptocurrency controversy as a learning opportunity. Milei expressed enthusiasm for hosting Devconnect, viewing it as beneficial for the country. The LIBRA cryptocurrency, mentioned by Milei in a now-deleted post, experienced a dramatic price surge followed by a crash, resulting in investor losses and accusations of a rug pull. Milei claims he did not promote the coin and is under investigation by the Anti-Corruption Office. Buterin has criticized politically-motivated meme coins and expressed concern over the rise of blockchain gambling, emphasizing a desire for ethical and socially relevant projects within the Ethereum ecosystem.
