Ethereum News: Important Note Issued, Ahead of Pectra Upgrade
The Ethereum Pectra upgrade, scheduled for April 2025, introduces several changes for validators and stakers. EIP 6110 will speed up validator deposits by removing a voting round. EIP 7002 allows validators to fully exit directly, enhancing staking security. EIP 7251 increases the maximum validator balance from 32 ETH to 2048 ETH, encouraging larger validators, and adjusts slashing penalties, making them lower for most but higher for offline validators with larger stakes. Validator rewards will auto-compound with EIP 7251, benefiting long-term stakers. Validators must update their withdrawal credentials to the 0x01 format before Pectra to access rewards. EIP 7702 temporarily lets externally owned accounts delegate control to smart contracts, potentially impacting staking pool interactions. Increased blob capacity might challenge home stakers with limited hardware. A Fusaka upgrade is planned for 2026 with potential EVM and block capacity improvements.
