Coinbase Launches CFTC-Regulated Solana Futures in U.S.
On February 19th, 2025, Coinbase launched Solana (SOL) and Hedera (HBAR) futures contracts on its U.S. derivatives exchange, regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). This move is seen as a potential step towards a Solana exchange-traded fund (ETF) in the U.S. The regulated futures aim to attract institutional investors by offering a more secure trading environment. Coinbase offers two SOL futures contract sizes: a standard contract of 100 SOL and a smaller contract of 5 SOL, catering to both large and small investors. The smaller contract is valued at under $1,000. This launch marks progress in the regulation of crypto derivatives in the US.
