North Korean Lazarus Group Behind $1B Bybit Hack Arkham Intelligence
Blockchain investigator ZachXBT has linked the recent $1 billion hack of crypto exchange Bybit, which has over 60 million users, to the North Korean Lazarus Group. ZachXBT presented evidence including test transactions, wallet links, and transaction timing, which Arkham Intelligence confirmed and shared with Bybit. Bybit has not yet released a statement. The Lazarus Group is known for stealing cryptocurrency and stole over $1.3 billion in 2024, representing 61% of all crypto stolen that year. The group uses various methods like phishing, blockchain attacks, and fake identities. While the bounty offered by Arkham Intelligence was $30,000 worth of ARKM tokens, ZachXBT conducted the investigation independently.
