Cardano Ratifies Its Constitution85% Vote Secures Historic Milestone
Cardano's community has voted to ratify its first official constitution with an 85% approval rate, exceeding the required 75% threshold. This replaces the interim constitution and establishes a new governance framework. Over 1,800 people participated in the process, which included more than 65 workshops and a constitutional convention. The constitution will officially take effect in a few days with the next epoch change. The new governance system manages a treasury currently holding 1.5 billion ADA, which the community can allocate through on-chain votes. A Constitutional Committee, initially appointed, voted unanimously for the constitution but will be replaced through elections later this year. The community will now vote on the product roadmap and budget. The founder emphasized that the constitution is designed to be updated over time and that Cardano now has the largest governance layer among cryptocurrencies. At the time of the original article's publication, ADA was trading at $0.74.
