America collects $50 billion from tariff payments
The United States has collected $50 billion from tariff payments following increases introduced by the Trump administration, including a 10% global tariff, 50% levies on steel and aluminum, and 25% on auto imports. U.S. customs revenues reached $64 billion in Q2 2025. Only China and Canada have responded with retaliatory tariffs, with Canada later backing down. Mexico has opted for negotiations instead of retaliation, even after facing 25% tariffs. The European Union is delaying countermeasures despite having drawn up a list of tariffs affecting $72 billion worth of American goods. The U.S. is considered to be in a strong position due to its central role in the global economy. Economists estimate that while a full-blown trade war could significantly reduce global GDP, maintaining tariffs around 10% would have a smaller economic impact. Some companies are attempting to absorb tariff costs through global pricing strategies.
