Large cap altcoins challenge BTC's dominance

Bitcoin's dominance in the cryptocurrency market has slightly decreased from a peak of 63% as other cryptocurrencies, particularly Ethereum, Solana, and XRP, have gained strength. The Altcoin Season Index, which measures the performance of altcoins relative to Bitcoin, has risen from 25 in June to 36, indicating a shift away from a full Bitcoin season. Over the past month, 42 out of 56 large-cap altcoins have outperformed Bitcoin. Meme tokens like Pudgy Penguins and DeFi tokens such as AAVE and MORPHO have also shown strong performance over the last 90 days. The current altcoin activity is driven by interest in coins with real-world applications, potential ETF launches, and the recovery of assets from older cycles like IOTA and XMR. While enthusiasm for altcoins is growing, historical data suggests that these seasons are typically short-lived, lasting around 4 to 8 weeks.
