China says EV firms should focus on innovation and quality rather than discounts
China is taking steps to regulate its electric vehicle (EV) industry. The government wants EV companies to focus on innovation and quality instead of cutting prices aggressively, aiming to maintain market stability. They plan to monitor prices more closely and enforce market order. Separately, China's Commerce Ministry is implementing new export rules requiring licenses for exporting key battery manufacturing technologies. This is to protect China's leading position in battery production and potentially discourage Chinese companies from building factories overseas. These rules follow a similar move regarding rare earth exports, which affects companies reliant on those materials. BYD, a major EV manufacturer, developed a lithium iron phosphate battery that reduces costs and fire risks, giving Chinese companies a competitive edge.
