Prices Slump, But Stablecoins, RWAs, and Bitcoin Futures Hit Record Highs: Bitwise Report

A Bitwise report indicated that while the prices of many cryptocurrencies like Ethereum and crypto equities fell during the first quarter, certain areas of the crypto market experienced significant growth. Specifically, stablecoins saw a 13.5% increase in assets under management to $218 billion, along with a 30% jump in transaction volumes. Tokenized real-world assets (RWAs) also gained traction, increasing by over 37%. Furthermore, regulated bitcoin futures trading volume and open interest reached record highs, suggesting growing institutional interest in these assets. Bitwise suggests that potential catalysts in the second quarter could lead to a market rebound including increased global liquidity and progress on stablecoin legislation in the U.S. Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan cautioned that recent pro-crypto moves by the U.S. government might be temporary without congressional support and lasting regulation.
