Senator Cynthia Lummis Alarmed By Alleged U.S. Bitcoin Reserve Holdings

Senator Cynthia Lummis has voiced concerns about the U.S. government's Bitcoin holdings after reports surfaced suggesting a significant decrease in the national Bitcoin Reserve. The controversy began when a journalist, responding to a bounty from Bitcoin Magazine, published documents allegedly from the United States Marshals Service indicating that the U.S. holds approximately 28,988 Bitcoin, valued at $3.44 billion as of March 2025. This is significantly lower than the estimated 200,000 Bitcoin that White House AI and Crypto Czar David Sacks claimed the U.S. possessed when President Trump launched the U.S. Digital Assets Stockpile in March 2025. Lummis stated that selling off over 80% of the reserves would be a strategic blunder. The White House has not yet commented on the claims.
