French lawmakers say country could generate $150M in annual revenue from Bitcoin mining
French lawmakers have proposed a five-year pilot program to utilize excess electricity for Bitcoin mining, potentially generating $100 to $150 million annually. The plan involves directing surplus power from sources like nuclear plants, which is often wasted during periods of low demand, to Bitcoin mining operations. This revenue could offset the costs of maintaining France's nuclear infrastructure. The proposal suggests co-locating Bitcoin mining centers with nuclear facilities to stabilize the energy grid and monetize wasted energy. Additionally, the heat generated from mining could be used for heating systems or industrial purposes. If approved, the program would be evaluated after six months to assess broader adoption, positioning France alongside other countries exploring Bitcoin mining to manage electricity oversupply.
