US Bitcoin Holdings Revealed at Just 28,988 BTCFar Below Estimated 200,000+
A Freedom of Information Act request revealed that the US government, specifically the US Marshals Service, currently holds approximately 28,988 Bitcoin. This amount is significantly lower than previous estimates of over 200,000 Bitcoin. At a Bitcoin price of around $118,493, these holdings are valued at roughly $3.43 billion. The disclosure has sparked criticism from crypto industry leaders and politicians, with some suggesting the US has made a strategic error by selling off a large portion of its Bitcoin reserves. Concerns have been raised that the US might be missing out on a geopolitical opportunity as other countries increase their Bitcoin holdings. Some analysts believe the reduced government Bitcoin holdings could alleviate selling pressure on the market.
