Austrian privacy group files complaints against AliExpress, TikTok, and WeChat
The Austrian privacy group noyb (None of Your Business) has filed complaints against TikTok, AliExpress, and WeChat with data protection authorities in Belgium, Greece, and the Netherlands, alleging violations of the EU's GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), specifically Article 15. Noyb claims these companies are failing to provide users with full access to their personal data. Noyb states that TikTok and AliExpress only provided partial or unusable data, while WeChat ignored the requests completely, making it impossible for users to verify if their data is processed according to GDPR rules. Noyb has previously filed complaints against these companies, seeking to suspend data transfers to China and impose fines up to 4% of their global revenue. The current complaints request that the data protection authorities declare the companies in violation of Articles 12 and 15 of the GDPR, order them to fulfill access requests, and impose fines to prevent future violations.
